Parses a trimmed, case-insensitive boolean string.

Truthy tokens are `"1"`, `"true"`, `"yes"`, and `"on"`. Falsey tokens are `"0"`, `"false"`, `"no"`, and `"off"`. Empty or unrecognized strings return the fallback.
